In the United States of America today is a federal holiday in honour of Dr.Martin Luther King Jr. He is widely known as a civil rights leader and human rights activist as well as fiery Southern Baptist preacher. Many people quote him and especially his famous “Dream Speech’’’ however, though he is often quoted, very few actually act on the powerful words. What better way to celebrate legacies of those who put their lives on the line so that we can enjoy freedom today than to actually act like they did?
In our world today there are new forms of discrimination and segregation and new minority groups. These people now face different difficulties and are marginalized in new ways, what hasn’t changed though is the need for people to stand up and fight against injustice, discrimination and inequality.
The best way to celebrate the lives and legacies of strong activists such as; Martin Luther King Jr, Mahatma Ghandi, Nelson Mandela, Mother Theresa and others is to act like they did and try to walk in their paths. Take a stand like they did even when facing strong opposition. Speak out on behalf of those who who have no voice, stand up on behalf of those who are downtrodden. Celebrate by your acts of kindness.
